Life’s a beach

During our week long vacation to Oregon we spent a day at the beach. Although Liam had been to the beach before, this was the first time he was old enough to crawl around and explore. It was fun to see him make a mess and get dirty.

He loved the texture of the sand, repeatedly squeezing it through his fingers. He also apparently loved the taste! He kept shoving handfuls of sand into his mouth. I was sure that he would eat a handful of sand and realize how nasty it was and he wouldn’t do it again, but he wouldn’t stop eating it! Jeremy and I kept telling him no and wiping his mouth, which he hated, but for some reason he was still motivated to munch on the sand. Oh well, I just kept thinking back to an adage of my youth that I heard my mom say often after I would crawl out my sandbox, “God made dirt, dirt don’t hurt.” I don’t know if this applies to sand, but I hope so.

He is one happy dude.

Hey mom, put that camera down and come play with me!

Liam licks his fingers, covered in sand.

Yum, a handful of sand.

Apparently just licking his fingers wasn't enough, he need an entire handful of sand.

Liam throws sand up in the sky.

Liam thanks God for making sand.

Liam gets dirtier by the minute. Check out his groovy sand castle buckets. We got them free at a garage sale!

Check out the dirt in the corners of Liam's mouth.

Liam inspects his fingers. He looks bewildered, as if he's thinking "How did I get so dirty?"

Liam stands up in the hole we dug for him. It actually worked out pretty good for him to be able to stand up and play in the sand.

Liam gets his feet wet in the ocean. He wanted to crawl into the water, but we wouldn't let him. He wasn't very happy about that.

Liam is mad that we wouldn't let him crawl into the Pacific Ocean.

The thinking man.

The thinking man. Looks like he's growing a go-tee

He thinks some more.

Liam contemplates, "How can I escape and get back to the water."

Liam is still a little mad, but he's getting over it.

Jeremy kisses Liam and Liam checks out my nose.

Another quirky family portrait.

Another family portrait. Liam pushes my face out of the way.

Liam changes his mind and instead of pushing my face decides to give me kisses.

Liam checks out a log on the beach.

Liam looks determined as he walks around a log on the beach.

All that fun at the beach wore Mr. Liam out. He fell asleep on our trip back to Corvallis. I'm sure he was dreaming about his next trip to the beach.
