A birthday with boatloads of sushi

September 4, 2008

So yesterday (Sept. 3) I turned 28 years old. What better way to celebrate than with a boatload of sushi?

Jeremy and I went to dinner at Sushi Boat, a sushi restaurant that serves all-you-can-eat sushi on floating boats!

I’ve never seen such a phenomenon – boats and boats of delicious sushi swimming by at a swift pace. People sitting around a round bar watching the sushi boats and swiftly swiping the sushi and savoring it’s sweet goodness.

We had never eaten here before and I just happened upon it while Googling for a restaurant yesterday. It had great reviews from a myriad of Web sites and it sounded like fun. Jeremy and I don’t get out much and when we do, it’s almost always dictated by where we have a coupon. We paid full price tonight (no coupon) and didn’t even feel guilty!

This is one of the sushi chefs that was making delicious sushi and putting it on the boats. He wanted to be in my picture and I warned him that he would end up on my blog. He laughed. . .if he only knew I was serious!

Then we have photos of sushi on boats. . .

The HUGE piece of sushi that you see in the middle of the photo is a volcano roll. People raved about this roll when they reviewed the restaurant online, I guess a lot of people really “lava” this roll (haha). The volcano roll contains crap, scallop, spicy mayo, and cucumber. The crab is artificial, but the scallop is raw mixed in the spicy mayo sauce that is served hot on top. I thought it was very good, but kind of rich for my boring sushi palate.

One of the best things about eating sushi this way is it allows you to try lots of different kinds – without having to spend a fortune or buy a bunch of rolls. I tried a new sushi that I now love. I don’t know what it is called but it had raw salmon and lemon on top and shrimp inside. It was very simple and refreshing! I’ll have to ask next time we go what it was called.

This is my favorite picture. I had shut the flash off because I was embarrassed to be taking photos – like a tourist or something. You can see the boats were moving fast!

I would definitely recommend it to you local Olympians and Lacyians. So anyhow, I had to share. It was a beautiful birthday. The morning started with BabyGym, the afternoon with work and the evening with boatloads of sushi. Turning 28 isn’t so bad.

  3. I had to re-read the ingredients of the volcano roll about 4 times to make sure I was reading it right and now i’m tickled. Sounds like an awesome place, I’m glad you had a good birthday!
