Liam, the booger man
June 4, 2008
The last few days we have not been fund raising, camping, throwing surprise birthday parties or remodeling – we are just hanging out. This respite from excitement and engagements has been refreshing but after all our running around we have been a little under the weather.
I believe this is only Liam’s second cold in his short time here on earth, he’s usually a very healthy, happy dude. This week, however, he has been a constant flow of snot. There isn’t much I can do for the little guy because I’m not going to give him cold medicine and he hates to have his nose wiped. Surprisingly he does love the green suction thing that pulls the snot out of his nostrils with hurricane-like suction. I show it to him and he even tilts his head back in preparation, like “let me have it!” It’s sick, but I suppose Liam is too. . . and it seems to work, at least for awhile.
Because I strive to be a superstar mom and wife, I made homemade chicken noodle soup (Jeremy also had the sniffles). It was Liam’s first sampling of chicken noodle soup and he loved it! It made my heart all warm to see he enjoys one of my favorite homemade meals, never mind that I’ve never seen him NOT enjoy food.

Other things to note this week, Liam was caught speeding down the hallway with the letter L in his mouth. I never give it much thought – but crawling sort of ties up your hands, so if you want to get somewhere, with something, you’ve got few options. I bet he knows L is for Liam and so he wanted to carry it around for a while. Whatever the reason, I thought it was cute.

He is getting much more mobile. I can hardly keep up with the little speed racer. He is standing on his own two feet as I type this, holding himself up. It believe he’ll be walking in no time. Although I’m excited for this milestone, I better get a new pair of running shoes. . .because I’m afraid of what he will do before I can catch him.

Here he props himself up in his play area. We call this the Liam’s world. It’s a nice way of saying it’s an 18 square foot gated area that takes up half our living room, filled with Liam’s toys and books. I ended up getting this baby “fence” because our house doesn’t have a typical floor plan that would allow for baby gates at every door.
This way, Liam can play at his hearts content and I don’t have to keep saying, “come here, don’t touch that, no. . . .” it’s a win-win. If Liam invites us, we visit him in his world. . .and it’s only a world he can understand.
