Technology, not friendly

April 28, 2008

Sometimes technology is your friend, sometimes it’s your foe. Do you ever feel that way?  Working from home I use my laptop all the time but the last couple months it’s been giving me an unexpected, unfriendly blue screen and then shutting down without even saying goodbye. So I talked to Dell and Costco. I found out I have a three-year warranty that ends at May 26. Usually my stuff waits until the day after the warranty ends to kick the bucket, it’s nice I get a little warning this time. So anyhow, long story short, I did a system reboot – bad idea. I have spent the last week online, virtually chatting with Dell to get it back to “normal” – it’s still not there. Dell has been very friendly and helpful, but I think my laptop hard drive is shot, so we’ll see. We have a desktop that I’ve been using – but this isn’t nearly as convenient and so my blog entries haven’t been as frequent. Of course, there is a silver lining in this travesty – I realized I was getting a bit too dependent on technology. Google this, google that, e-mail here, e-mail there. . .maybe I could cut back a bit. So I have cut back on my computer use and it’s been good on my eyes and my mind. We’ll see how long it lasts – it’s easier said than done. If you are reading this right now, you should shut your computer off and go outside for a walk. . .
