We devour the shower
April 25, 2008
Watch out Bob Villa – you’ve got some wannabe do-it-yourselfers on the loose. Well not really, because no matter how many remodeling shows I watch or books I read, I still don’t trust myself enough to tackle big home repair projects without a true professional. I’d love to be able to tile or plumb, and to do it myself, but it never seems like a good time to learn, you know? I’m scared of screwing it up and needing to pay a professional even more to fix it. Not to mention I don’t think I’m patient enough for the whole trial-and-error thing. When it comes to projects like this, I’ll admit – as soon as I start, I want to be finished.
So, we have a bathroom that needs remodeling and we decided we are only qualified enough to demolish it. We hired a contractor to come in and make it pretty again. This photo is of the tile wall that we pulled away from the studs. The demo was quite an adventure. We started at about 7:30 p.m. this Wednesday night and we went to town on the tile with a hammer and a crow bar. If you ever need stress relief – this would be it. I got so into it that I kicked the wall in, but with just socks and pajama pants on, this was not a good idea – those tiles are sharp! I’m a certified idiot and luckily I only ended up with a few scratches. God bless Jeremy who is so patient and level-headed – he would never kick the wall in (especially without shoes), he just sighs quietly and gets me a wash cloth and a few large band-aids. He didn’t even tell me how stupid I was for doing it.
We had it all destroyed, and cleaned up, in about two hours – which is a bit depressing when you think about the poor soul who probably spent two days covering the walls in 1.5 inch tiles. The contractor started today and hopefully we’ll have a newly remodeled bathroom in a week or so.
[...] this past weekend, I surprised Jeremy by painting our bathroom. In an earlier post I documented our destruction/demolition of the bathroom in preparation for the contractor to come in and fix it. We opted to paint the bathroom ourselves [...]
